Inner West Council Launches Free Energy Upgrade Advice Program

Inner West Council

Inner West Council is working with ZapCat, a certified social enterprise, to help local residents electrify their homes, reduce energy bills and make the switch to clean energy.

Launching today, the program offers free, independent advice to Inner West households, apartments and small businesses about switching to electric appliances such as solar panels, batteries, hot water heat pumps, EV chargers, induction cooktops, efficient heating and cooling, and more. Residents can also access practical advice on lowering bills through energy efficiency upgrades including insulation and draught proofing.

For many residents, researching reliable options, chasing quotes and comparing rebates can be overwhelming and time-consuming. That's why Council is committed to providing residents with hassle-free ways to electrify. This new program will give locals trusted advice, quick online cost estimates, and access to vetted local installers — all in the one place.

Through ZapCat's platform, households can:

  • Get an instant online estimate of costs, savings and available rebates
  • Ask questions directly to home energy experts
  • Submit quotes for review
  • Book a free virtual consultation with an advisor
  • Connect with vetted local installers offering discounts for residents

Councillor Chloe Smith said the program was a timely initiative to support residents with both cost of living pressures and climate action.

"We know energy bills are a huge pressure for many households right now. By partnering with ZapCat, Council is giving residents free access to trusted, independent advice to help them make smart choices that will save money and reduce emissions."

"This is about empowering our community to move away from gas, embrace renewable energy and invest in a cleaner, more affordable future," Clr Smith said.

ZapCat receives no financial benefit from installers as part of this program, ensuring advice remains independent and in the best interest of Inner West residents.

The program is free for all Inner West households, apartments, and small businesses, thanks to Council funding.
