The NSW 24 Hour Commissioner's first State of the Night Report confirms that the nighttime economy in the Inner West continues to go from strength to strength.
The report confirms that Inner West Council's commitment to revitalising our nighttime economy is paying dividends with spending on accommodation, food, services, arts and recreation growing by 4.5 per cent in the last financial year.
The report also revealed that the number of food, drink and entertainment businesses grew by 6.4 per cent.
The 24-Hour Commissioner, Michael Rodrigues called out the Inner West's leadership in revitalising nightlife, saying "…I would suggest that the entertainment product has gotten stronger there.
"I was down in the Enmore Special Entertainment area last weekend and it was really buzzy with lots of alfresco dining and things of that nature."
With six new Entertainment Precincts now operating across the Inner West, this trend is certain to grow, and our vital creative and entertainment economies will reap the benefits.
We're also investing in the revitalisation of our Main Streets, increasing the number of local festivals, and Marrickville has recently been officially recognised as a vibrant, diverse and well-managed nighttime precinct with Purple Flag accreditation.
The NSW Government has also recently adopted our long-standing Good Neighbour Policy which has helped to create better relationships between Inner West venues and nearby residents.
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne welcomed the findings of the report and said:
"This report confirms that the Inner West continues to lead the charge in revitalising Sydney's nightlife.
"Our venues, artists, entertainment and cultural offerings are the most vibrant and interesting in NSW and continue to draw people from all over Sydney to enjoy the unique buzz of our diverse neighbourhoods.
"The Inner West is the beating heart of live entertainment, alfresco dining, cultural venues and nightlife and this report confirms it."
