Inquiries continuing and charges laid over hoon driving in Eastern Creek

A man has been charged as part of inquiries into aggravated burnouts and dangerous driving in Sydney’s west last week, NSW Police say.

About 9pm on Thursday 27 July 2017, police attended Ferrers Road at Eastern Creek following numerous reports of high performance vehicles driving dangerously while leaving an event at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Several units from the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command attended and stopped a number of vehicles allegedly speeding and doing burnouts at the location.

The Public Order & Riot Squad, Dog Unit and officers from Blacktown Local Area Command were also required to attend to disperse a large crowd watching.

Police will allege the driver of a Toyota Corolla, an 18-year-old provisional P2 licence holder, engaged a burnout with three to four people holding onto the side of the vehicle directly in front of a crowd of approximately 40 people.

When officers attempted to stop the driver, he allegedly reversed and ran from the vehicle.

Following inquiries, about 11pm the same date, (27 July 2017), the driver of the Toyota attended Blacktown Police Station.

The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for the offences of drive manner dangerous; and aggravated burnout and also had his licence suspended and vehicle confiscated.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Friday 18 August 2017.

Officers also issued several traffic infringement notices at the scene and referred several vehicles for inspection by the Environmental Protection Agency. Inquiries are continuing and more infringement notices are expected to be issued.

Traffic & Highway Patrol Command’s Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said burnouts were not only extremely dangerous, but especially irresponsible while in close proximity to large crowds.

"This type of dangerous driving will not be tolerated and our officers will continue to target this behaviour to ensure the safety of all road users," said A/Commissioner Corboy.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
