I was saddened to learn of the death of Yukiya Amano, long-standing Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

DG Amano upheld the highest standards of professionalism in the IAEA's crucial work. He steered the IAEA with commitment and determination, navigating many complex issues. He will be remembered for his vision of Atoms for Peace and Development, work on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and promoting nuclear safeguards essential to global peace and security.

He was respected by all who worked with him and will be missed. I would like express my condolences on behalf of Her Majesty's Government to his family and friends, his colleagues in the IAEA and the Japanese Government.
