International Day of Rural Women

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Women

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to creating a more inclusive Tasmania that empowers and enables women and girls to fully participate in our economic, social, political, and community life.

Today is International Day of Rural Women and the theme for 2020 is building back better – building rural women's resilience in the wake of COVID-19.

Rural women play a crucial role in our community – in agriculture, food security and nutrition, land and natural resource management, and rural enterprise.

These primary industries are vitally important to the Tasmanian way of life and rural women are at the forefront.

Organisations such as Tasmanian Women in Agriculture (TWiA) highlight the dedication and commitment of women involved in Tasmanian rural communities and industries.

Tasmanian industries are well known for celebrating enterprising women in the rural sector with recognition programs like the AgriFutures Rural Women's Award Tasmania and the Women in Resources Tasmania Awards.

I thank the women and girls who live and work in rural Tasmania for their significant contribution to our way of life.
