Investigation commences after gyrocopter crash in Dubbo

Police are investigating and a man has been hospitalised after a gyrocopter crashed at Dubbo this afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 1.35pm (Tuesday 10 July 2018), police were called to Dubbo Regional Airport after reports that an aircraft had crashed within the airport.

Upon arrival police from Orana Mid Western Police District located an injured 69-year-old man within the cockpit of the crashed gyrocopter.

The officers established a crime scene.

With the assistance of other emergency services the pilot was removed from the aircraft and conveyed to Dubbo Regional Hospital in a stable condition.

Police have been told that as the gyrocopter attempted to take off it experienced difficulties and impacted heavily near the runway.

The man has possible leg and internal injuries and is reportedly in a stable condition.

Inquiries into the cause of the crash continue
