Investigation underway after teen indecently assaulted during break-in in Ballina

Police are appealing for information after a teenage girl was indecently assaulted during a break-in on NSW’s North Coast overnight, NSW Police say.

Just after 2am (Friday 29 June 2018), officers from Richmond Police District responded to reports of a break-in at a home on Tamar Street, Ballina.

Police were told the young female resident awoke to an unknown man, who had unlawfully entered the home, touching her.

When she reacted to his presence, the man fled through the back door. The girl then woke her mother, who called police.

A number of items were reportedly stolen from the home.

Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

They are appealing for information from the community that may assist in locating the man.

He has been described as being aged in his late 30s or early 40s, with a pale complexion, of above average height, with an average build.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a light-grey hooded jumper and track pants.

Police are urging anyone who may know the identity of the man, or with information that may assist with inquiries, to contact Crime Stoppers.
