Investigation launched into fatal house fire in Parkes

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was located following a house fire at Parkes earlier this week, NSW Police say.

About 11.40am on Monday (5 June 2017), police from Lachlan Local Area Command responded to reports of a fire at a unit block on Grenfell Street, Parkes.

The fire was extinguished by fire fighters from Fire & Rescue NSW, with two units sustaining significant damage.

The body of a 71-year-old man was located inside one of the damaged units.

The resident of the other unit, a 38-year-old man, was also treated at the scene before being taken to Orange Health Service for assessment.

A crime scene was established and specialist forensic officers are continuing their examination today.

Local detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Property Crime Squad’s Arson Unit, have established Strike Force Lynjohn to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of the man’s death.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
