Investigators release CCTV after woman stabbed in Toongabbie

Police have released CCTV images in an appeal for public assistance after a woman was stabbed in Sydney's west this morning.

Just after middnight (Wednesday 23 January 2019), a 19-year-old woman was walking along Cornelia Road, Toongabbie, when an unknown female approached her near the intersection of Cecilia Street and requested to use a mobile phone.

Police have been told the female threatened the woman and demanded her personal belongings, before the woman sustained multiple stab wounds to her stomach, back, and arms.

The female fled the scene on foot.

The injured woman was able to walk back to her home nearby, where she contacted emergency services.

She was taken to Westmead Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition awaiting surgery.

Officers from Blacktown Police Area Command are appealing for information and have released CCTV images of a female who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

She is depicted as being of Pacific Islander/Maori or Asian appearance, with black hair parted down the middle, and wearing dark-coloured clothing.

Detectives believe the incident is linked to a robbery and assault earlier this month, when a 32-year-old woman was approached by a female on Union Street, Toongabbie, about 10.30pm on Sunday 6 January 2019.

Police have been told the female threatened the woman, before stabbing her in the arm.

The woman was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and has since been released.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
