Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss today announced funding of $300,000 to support 10 artists and arts organisations through the Strategic Arts Program.
The Strategic Arts Program provides funding for new initiatives that market and promote the arts, grow a sustainable arts sector and increase opportunities for access and participation in the arts across the NT.
The program provides assistance to projects that increase access for artists with disabilities; support independent creative professionals and increase capacity and non-Government investment in the NT arts industry.
Access for artists with disabilities will be strengthened across the Northern Territory with activities taking place in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs from July 2019.
- Arts Access Darwin will be undertaking THE OPEN HOUSE, a 30-week skills development workshop program for the Free Space Studio artists, a collective of 18 Darwin based artists with a disability.
- In Alice Springs Incite Arts will create a new artistic work titled, MOVE MASTERS with the stArts with D ensemble that includes emerging artists with a learning disability.
- Access Arts Katherine will be providing weekly visual arts workshops from July 2019 to June 2020 for people with a disability
Independent creative professional, Markus Kuchenbuch has received funding for the Alice Springs World Chamber Orchestra to expand its performances, audiences and opportunities to collaborate with Central Australian artists; and Darwin based textile artist Robyn McLean has been provided funding to grow and promote her textile design business bippidii boppidi.
In the Arts Industry Development category project highlights include funding for Tactile Arts to increase access and programs for regional participants and a grant to Central Craft to host the Australian Ceramics Triennale in Alice Springs in 2022.

The Strategic Arts Program funds initiatives will help us to grow a sustainable arts sector, market and promote Northern Territory arts and increase opportunities for access and participation in the arts across the NT.
The grants support the development of artists with a disability, strengthen business development opportunities for artists and independent producers/curators, and support strategies to grow national and international markets and audiences for NT artists.
