Investing in Bush: Seeking Next Generation of Aboriginal Leaders

TheTerritory Labor Government is seeking 16 emerging Aboriginal leaders to join theFirst Circles Leadership Program, to equip them with skills to influence changein their communities.

Eachyear, the First Circles program selects eight Aboriginal Territorians fromremote communities in the south and eight from the north of the NT to developand expand their leadership skills, with the aim of participants returning tocommunities as strong community leaders.

Throughoutthe course of the year, participants will attend workshops where their voiceswill be strengthened, their contributions valued and where they will build theskills to confidently and directly speak to, negotiate and influence governmentabout matters affecting their communities.

Aspart of the program, successful applicants will also attend the AboriginalLeadership and Governance Forum held in Alice Springs, and will meet with theNorthern Territory Cabinet.

Manypast graduates have gone on to represent their communities at the Territory ornational level, which has provided opportunities to advocate for change and connectwith diverse networks across different regions.
