Investing in Jobs: Positive Signs Going Forward in Mining Sector

The TerritoryGovernments plan to create jobs and stimulate the economy through theresources industry is showing positive signs, with a report showingencouraging results in the NT mining sector.

The Fraser Institute Annual Mining Survey2018 shows that the Northern Territorysranking on the Investment Attraction Index is now 23rd up from 27ththe previous year.

The Territoryhas also improved to become the third best performing Australian jurisdiction,up from fourth the previous year.

Under theTerritory Labor Government, mining has been growing strongly with results from the 2017/18financial year showing:

  • Mineralexploration expenditure in the NT increase by 43 per cent, compared to 26 percent nationally; and

  • Record-breakingmineral production of $4.49 billion up 24 per cent on the previous year

The TerritoryLabor Government will continue to invest in jobs and support the resourcesindustry, and while there is more work to do, the strong results in the survey show this is helping to make the NT anappealing place to invest in mining.

Unlocking moreprivate investment in the resources sector and delivering on major miningprojects, which create local jobs and support local businesses, are otherpriorities for the Territory Labor Government.

Our Governmenthas delivered a record-breaking investment in mineral exploration with $26million being spent over four years on our Resourcing the Territoryinitiative.

The Resourcingthe Territory initiative is the biggest investment by any Territory Governmentinto programs to attract and support resources exploration in the Territory supporting local jobs and supporting local businesses.
