Is Labor finally ending its silence on Peacock Centre rebuild?

Labor has had a lot to say about mental health and the health system recently as part of their continuing mediscare campaign to frighten vulnerable Tasmanians. They know the Liberals are implementing new services, which were ignored by Labor both in Government and in Opposition.

We know there is pressure and demand is growing, but this is why we have a strong $95 million plan to build a better mental health system – backed by experts, consumers, and key stakeholders. We’re currently building Tasmania’s first ever adolescent mental health facilities in the North and the South – again, ignored by Labor.

Sarah Lovell is more than happy to play TV and newspaper politics with these serious issues, but now she needs to answer some key questions:

QUESTION: Will Sarah Lovell and Labor finally admit that rebuilding the Peacock Centre was not even mentioned in their mental health policy at the election?

QUESTION: Why wasn’t the Peacock Centre in Labor’s election policy?

QUESTION: Can Sarah Lovell confirm that before sniffing a political opportunity this week, Labor has not publicly raised the Peacock Centre rebuild since 2016?

QUESTION: Will Labor finally back the Government’s plan to rebuild the Peacock, with completion in 2020, or does it remain their policy not to rebuild it?

We are working with the Chief Psychiatrist, who is consulting with clinicians and consumers, to ensure we get this right.

Ms Lovell began her tenure as Shadow Health Minister saying she wanted to be constructive and work with the Government, but this evaporated as she fell into line with her leader’s negative mediscare mantra.

Labor wants to be an alternative Government but are simply not prepared to put in the work to make Tasmanians' lives better.
