Rising stars at Isaac Regional Council have brought home a well-deserved win when they competed against six other teams at the 2019 LGMA Central Queensland Rural Management Challenge.

Staged in Yeppoon, the annual challenge is designed to provide rural Councils with a unique opportunity for staff development, with an emphasis on exploring the challenges facing the region and developing innovative initiatives in a networking environment.

A mixture of experience and backgrounds represented the Isaac region this year with team members from Parks and Recreation Luke Logan and Debra Schafer, Community Relations’ Jennifer Ennis and Water and Waste Business Services Melanie Skyring.

The winning team fittingly named themselves All Eyes on Isaac.

Mayor Anne Baker said the challenge was a fantastic opportunity for Isaac Regional Council employees to be involved in a program that promoted leadership and community engagement.

“I would like to congratulate the All Eyes on Isaac team on their win. They were working hard leading up to the challenge; preparing a Council report; drafting a media release; developing logos, vision and mission statements and corporate values,” Mayor Baker said.

“The challenge is about developing our staff to be the best they can be, through learning and collaboration with other Central Queensland councils, and encouraging out-of-the box thinking. This is just another example of our pure people power.”

Acting CEO Rod Ferguson said the two-day event saw Council teams from across Central Queensland challenged with tasks that stretched their knowledge of local government.

“Tasks were specifically tailored for rural and regional councils, addressing realistic scenarios faced in the day-to-day management of local government operations,” he said.

“Our wonderful winners have returned from the challenge with improved teamwork skills and a better understanding of their own Council, ready to help energise the world.”

The CQ Rural Management Challenge was held 27 November 2019, hosted Local Government Managers Australia, Queensland (LGMA Queensland).
