Police are investigating a series of thefts and subsequent deceptions from cricket grounds in the Benalla and Glenrowan areas earlier this month, Victoria Police say.
Investigators have been told an unknown offender/s attended a cricket oval on Ackerly Avenue, Benalla sometime between 1.30pm and 4pm on 3 February.
It is believed they took a beige purse containing a driver’s licence and bank cards from a handbag, which had been left on the side of the field among a pile of players’ personal belongings.
The card was subsequently used at a Benalla supermarket and fast food store in Glenrowan.
Sometime between 1.30pm and 6pm on the same day, cricket players at a Bridge Road West oval also reported their belongings had been tampered with, with cash stolen from two separate victims.
Investigators have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
He is described as aged in his mid-40s to 50s with a solid build and white hair.
The man was last seen wearing a grey polo shirt and also had a cap on while at the cricket grounds.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
