It's time to throw in game - Let's get gambling out of ACT politics

Australian Greens

Andrew Braddock responds to ABC article about the influence of the gambling industry in politics.

"The ABC online article was unambiguous, stating that 'nowhere in Australia is the flow of gambling losses to political parties more extreme than in the ACT'" said Andrew Braddock MLA, Greens Member for Yerrabi and Spokesperson for Democracy.

"The old political parties are directly benefiting from pokies revenue, an activity we know causes harm to people, their families and our community.

"New South Wales has prohibited donations from gambling entities. The ACT should do the same.

"The ACT needs to decide whether political parties benefiting from harmful activities such as gambling serves our society or democracy. We will have the opportunity to discuss this in the Legislative Assembly as reforms to the Electoral Act are brought forward in the second half of this year."
