Thursday, 22 January 2026: Jetstar is adding more than 19,000 new low fares seats on its popular Canberra to Brisbane route this year, allowing Canberrans to take off more for less while supporting the growth of ACT tourism.
The low-cost airline has confirmed it will operate its larger Airbus A321LR aircraft between Canberra and Brisbane from April to October this year. These aircraft will replace its A320s on the route and have up to 52 additional seats per flight.
It will be the first time Jetstar has operated the A321LR out of Canberra. The quieter and more fuel-efficient aircraft raise the bar for low-cost comfort, featuring larger overhead storage bins, in-seat power, and seat back device holders.
Jetstar's Canberra network
Jetstar operates up to 18 return flights a week from Canberra across three domestic routes to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Melbourne, with the extra Brisbane capacity bringing the total to more than 350,000 seats annually.
Since launching the three routes following the pandemic, Jetstar has carried more than one million customers in and out of the nation's capital, giving Canberrans more choice and stimulating inbound travel demand with low fares.
Great low fares
To celebrate this significant capacity boost, Jetstar is offering one-way fares from Canberra to Brisbane from only $129^ at jetstar.com. Fares are also currently available from just $81^ to the Gold Coast and $93^ to Melbourne.
Jetstar CEO, Stephanie Tully, said the capacity increase shows Jetstar's ongoing commitment to Canberra.
"Canberrans and visitors to the region have embraced our low fares and we're pleased to bring our larger A321LR aircraft to the nation's capital for the first time, adding more than 19,000 low fares seats on our Canberra to Brisbane route from April to October.
"This gives Canberrans more opportunities to take off more to the Sunshine State while also supporting local tourism and hospitality businesses with more travellers able experience the many attractions that Canberra and the region have to offer. "
ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, said:
"Jetstar's decision to increase capacity between Canberra and Brisbane later this year is fantastic news for travel affordability.
"This will provide more affordable and frequent options when flying to South East Queensland.
"It also demonstrates confidence in Canberra's tourism offering and aligns strongly with our tourism strategy to grow the Queensland market even further."
Canberra Airport's CEO, Stephen Byron welcomed the announcement.
