A jetty allowing small boat owners access to the South West Conservation Area from Macquarie Heads, near Strahan on Tasmania's West Coast, closed a number of years ago due to the deterioration of the structure and safety concerns.
The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) has now awarded a tender for the construction of a replacement jetty to innovative North-West Tasmanian firm, AJR Construct Pty Ltd.
The new jetty, which will be used by the local shack community and recreational visitors, has been funded through the Tasmanian Government's Improved State-wide Visitor Infrastructure program.
This program aims to provide improved facilities for enhanced experiences in parks and reserves for locals and visitors alike.
The new jetty works will not impact or inconvenience visitors as access will be maintained on the track behind the jetty for local shack leases and owners.
Works are expected to be completed by the end of April 2020, weather permitting, and once open, the jetty will available to all members of the community to use and enjoy.
