Jobs for Queenslanders

In Parliament today Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, Mark Ryan, revealed the extent to which investments in Police and Corrective Services infrastructure are delivering opportunities for business and creating jobs for Queenslanders.

A $241m investment expanding the Capricornia Correctional Centre is delivering construction jobs and more than one hundred permanent jobs on the completion of that construction.

A $46m allocation to build a world-class Counter-Terrorism at Wacol will create another 130 construction jobs.

Minister Ryan said the Palaszczuk Government had a clear economic plan to drive growth and, most importantly, create jobs for Queenslanders.

"We stand for jobs and it's jobs we are delivering.

"We've invested over $46 million in building a new Counter Terrorism and Community Safety Centre in Wacol which will be a world-class use of force, weapons and counter-terrorism.

"Further, the Heritage Building – Silky Oak House refurbishment and the new warehouse facility at Wacol will create a further 60 jobs during construction.

"This project is creating local jobs and will also offer a range of opportunities for local businesses.

"Our government is also funding 85 new counter terrorism specialists, to be embedded statewide.

"Not only that, our $241 million expansion of Capricornia Correctional Centre is delivering much needed jobs for the wider Rockhampton community.

"More than 140 jobs will be delivered during the construction phase.

"91% of the project's workforce come from the region and with $53 million already injected into local industry – the Palaszczuk Government keeps delivering for regional communities.

"Once construction is complete, an additional 115 full-time jobs will be delivered.

"Since first elected, 55 staff have boosted the corrections frontline in the region.

"Queensland Corrective Services is one of the region's biggest employers - with 310 staff committed to keeping communities safe.

"We build the infrastructure.

"We provide the training.

"We invest in new and emerging technologies, and

"We invest in Queenslanders.

"The Palaszczuk Government continues to deliver jobs for Queenslanders when jobs and job security are more important than ever before," Minister Ryan said.
