Byron Shire Mayor Sarah Ndiaye is encouraging everyone to mark this Sunday 1 March in their calendars and get involved in Clean Up Australia Day events happening across the Byron Shire.

"Council is excited to be partnering with Positive Change for Marine Life again this year for a major clean‑up of the Brunswick River and surrounding areas," Mayor Ndiaye said.

"It would be incredible to see as many people as possible joining in to make a real and lasting difference."

Last year, more than 200 kilograms of waste was collected from 11 clean‑up events across the Shire — with 100 kilograms removed from Brunswick Heads alone.

This year's Positive Change for Marine Life clean‑up hub will be located at Terrace Park (near the Soundshell, opposite Street Sushi) from 9am to 11.30am.

"Bring your family, your kids, your neighbours — everyone's welcome," Mayor Ndiaye said.

"You can join the Brunswick Heads clean‑up, or you can register your school, business or neighbourhood to host your own event, with all clean‑up materials supplied by Clean Up Australia Day."

"This is a simple, practical way to spend a couple of hours helping prevent waste from entering our waterways and caring for the places and marine life we all love," she said.
