On August 19, 2026, an inmate from Joyceville Institution's Assessment Unit died while in our custody of apparent natural causes. The individual's name has been anonymized in accordance with a court-ordered publication ban to protect the identity of the victim(s).
At the time of death, the inmate was 78 years old and had been serving a six-year sentence since August 1, 2024.
The inmate's next of kin has been notified.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
