Timed parking limits on Jubilee Highway East will address ongoing safety concerns around informal business activity in the area between Penola Road and Hedley Street, including the private sale of vehicles and firewood.
Following approval from the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), Council will introduce timed parking limits on both sides of Jubilee Highway East between Penola Road and Hedley Street, with a four-hour limit from 9:00am to 5:00pm, seven days a week.
City of Mount Gambier Manager Governance and Property Brittany Shelton said the decision follows legal advice and stakeholder consultation.
"Council has received numerous complaints about safety and amenity issues caused by the private sale of vehicles and firewood along this stretch of road," Manager Governance and Property Brittany Shelton said.
"While enforcement options have been limited up until this point, timed parking will act as a practical deterrent. It aims to improve safety and parking turnover while reducing prolonged use of the area for business purposes."
Council encourages residents and businesses to be aware of the new restrictions before enforcement begins.
The changes will take effect from 1 January 2026.
