Julie Collins Ducks For Cover On Salmon

Tasmanian Government

Federal Labor Minister Julie Collins has tried to wash her hands of responsibility for Tasmania's salmon industry.

Speaking on ABC Radio Hobart earlier today, Ms Collins attempted to shift blame to the Tasmanian Government for the uncertainty facing salmon workers and their families across the State.

Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Eric Abetz, said that the Federal Minister must accept responsibility for the actions of her parliamentary colleagues.

"We know full-well that the kowtowing of Tanya Plibersek to inner city elites on the mainland has caused the stress and uncertainty being felt by Tasmanian salmon workers and their families," Minister Abetz said.

"You don't have to be a constitutional law expert to understand that the Commonwealth Government holds key environmental levers under the EPBC Act.

"Minister Collins is attempting to shift blame and avoid accountability, while ignoring the culprits of uncertainty within her own party room.

"Federal Labor has caused the uncertainty; dragged its feet on approvals; and now wants to duck for cover — all while claiming credit for a $28 million support package.

"Tasmanians won't buy the spin. Minister Collins ought to stop appeasing activists and start standing up for Tasmanian jobs."
