Katrina Schildberger joins Sport Australia in new integrity role

Sport Australia General Manager of Sport Business Andrew Larratt has welcomed Katrina (Kate) Schildberger to the team, who begins her role as Deputy General Manager Integrity next week.
Larratt said Schildberger brings a wealth of experience in leading reform in integrity and cultural change, having spent more than 25 years with the Australian Army.
"Kate’s experience will be instrumental to Sport Australia and the industry more broadly as we strive to ensure sporting environments are safe and ethical for all participants," Larratt said.
"Integrity is central to Sport Australia’s vision for success. Kate will lead the charge in ensuring Australian sport is fair and free from corruption and that our policies, procedures and practices are world class."
As Director of the Defence Force Response Unit, Schildberger led the Australian Defence Force’s implementation of the Commonwealth Ombudsman’s Defence Reparation Scheme and the National Redress Scheme (for people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse). As the Australian Army’s senior education specialist, she helped design and develop a revised professional development strategy which incorporated greater emphasis on ethical decision-making and misconduct prevention strategies. She also worked with the Army hierarchy to ensure greater workforce diversity.
"Sport is such an integral part of who we are as Australians. I want our future generations to participate in sport knowing it is safe, fair and inclusive," Schildberger said.
"It’s absolutely critical that we safeguard the integrity of sport for all Australians. This role is an opportunity for me to give back and make a difference in an area I am passionate about, and I’m looking forward to the challenge."
Her role will include overseeing the roll out of Safe Sport Australia to strengthen the integrity of Australian community sport and ensuring all levels of sport understand their roles in keeping children safe. Kate will continue Sport Australia’s work with sector partners to ensure online resource Play by the Rules helps to make Australian sport safe, fair and inclusive.
Schildberger will commence on 22 October and her appointment completes the Sport Business Division’s Senior Management Team.
