Police are searching for the owner of a kayak that was located drifting off the coast of Balnarring this morning, Victoria Police say.
The kayak was located by a passing boat in Western Port Bay, about 1km off Cliff’s Beach between 6-7am.
The khaki-coloured Emotion kayak is loaded with fishing gear and four baited fishing rods.
Based on ocean currents and weather conditions, police believe the kayak may have come from the Phillip Island area.
Police believe they know who the owner of the kayak is, however have not been able to locate him or his next of kin.
No one has been reported missing at this stage.
Water Police, the police Air Wing helicopter, Coastguard and Volunteer Marine Rescue members are currently searching off the coast.
Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the kayak at any point this weekend to contact police.
