
Highly regarded and long serving staff member, Kevin Norwood, has been appointed Director of City Services following a competitive recruitment process.
Mr Norwood started with Council in 1988 and has spent 37 years rising through the ranks to become a well respected member of the Executive Leadership Team.
CEO Andrew Constance said Mr Norwood was one of several skilled applicants who applied for the job and that Kevin's comprehensive management experience and commitment to the local community made him the right candidate for the job.
"Kevin has forged an incredibly successful career in local government and it's fantastic to see him appointed to this coveted leadership position," Mr Constance said.
"This is a well-deserved appointment for someone who has dedicated their professional career to serving the Shoalhaven community and wanting the best outcomes for the region," he said.
Mayor Patricia White said the appointment would bring stability to the large team and add more certainty to the organisation as a whole.
"I've worked with Kevin for many years and I know he will provide us with a safe and steady pair of hands as we navigate our way into the future," Cr White said.
"I wish Kevin every success in his new role and congratulate him on this incredible achievement," she said.
The Director City Services provides strategic leadership and direction for the 600-plus team responsible for major road and infrastructure project delivery, road and footpath maintenance, asset strategy, open spaces and buildings, tourist parks, technical and mechanical services, bereavement services, Swim Sport Fitness, and emergency services. The role is a key advisor to the CEO as well as the Council, helping to shape the future of the region.
Mr Norwood has been acting in the Director role for the past eight months, giving him an insight into the busy and challenging role. His experience includes a proven ability to manage large-scale budgets and operational leadership across services areas such as recreation, infrastructure, property, waste and community services. He has also implemented Council's Financial Sustainability Plan to support the organisation's long-term financial health.
Career accomplishments include successfully delivering recreation capital projects such as the Boongaree Play Park, implementing Council's Community Strategic Plan and overseeing the planning of Sanctuary Point Library. Mr Norwood is also renowned for his management of Shoalhaven Swim Sport Fitness which included overseeing the daily operations and budgets for the region's leisure centres including swimming pools, gymnasiums and retail outlets.
Mr Norwood starts his new role from today.
