Kiama Council is proud to celebrate International Women's Day this March by recognising the strength, leadership and contribution of women who help guide our organisation and our community.

At a time when women continue to be under-represented in leadership roles across local government, Kiama Council stands out for its difference and diversity. Kiama LGA is fortunate to have 5 strong female councillors out of a total of 9 and the Illawarra Shoalhaven's region's only female local government CEO Jane Stroud.

This representation is well above the NSW local government average. Across the state, women make up 27.4% of chief executives, general managers and legislators in the public sector, and only 37% of councillors across rural councils.

Kiama Council CEO Jane Stroud said this year's International Women's Day theme of "Balance the Scales" is a good reminder that diversity isn't just a word, it's an action in our organisation. "When decision-makers reflect the diversity and gender of the people they serve, outcomes are fairer, stronger and more sustainable. I'm incredibly proud to lead an organisation and a community that values and diversity in leadership."

Kiama Mayor Cameron McDonald also acknowledged the strength of the current Council.

"We are fortunate to have such a diverse group of Councillors representing our community. Their leadership, experience and perspectives enrich our decisions and help ensure we remain forward-thinking, inclusive and community-focused," he said.

Deputy Mayor Melissa Matters said: "International Women's Day is a moment to reflect on how far we've come, but also on the work still ahead. When women are empowered to lead, our community benefits from broader perspectives, richer conversations and more inclusive outcomes."

Council's Head of Implementation and Executive Leadership Team member Kimberley Norton said: "Our staff are our greatest asset, and the women of Kiama Council play a vital role in driving our organisation forward, in whichever role or position they hold."
