Kick off your shoes for a good time

Fun but silly at times is how Wodonga Life Activities Club describes barefoot bowls which will be part of the entertainment for Senior Celebrations 2019.

"It's a bit of a laugh and most balls go down the gullies or don't go far at all," Activities Co-ordinator Sandra McIntosh said.

"It can get silly at times but it's not serious and really fun and that's the aim of the day."

If lawn bowls is not your thing, don't worry, the Barefoot Bowls Luncheon at Wodonga Bowling Club on Sunday, October 13 includes a two-course barbecue lunch and live entertainment by old time Rock 'n' Roll performer Gaven Slater.

The event, from 12.30pm to 3.30pm, costs $20 with tickets available from The Cube Wodonga.

Mrs McIntosh encouraged people to give barefoot bowls a go but said it was not compulsory.

"Just come along for the company, enjoy a meal and the live music," she said.

"If you do want to have a go then there will be someone to show you how."

The club is involved in organising several other events as part of Senior Celebrations, including the Mystery Movie Morning at Regent Cinemas on Tuesday, October 15 from 10am.

"A cuppa in the foyer with friends and then a movie, you can't get a better deal than this for just $2," Mrs McIntosh said.

Last year the activities club picked up several new members as a result of being part of the Senior Celebrations.

"Our club hosts weekly activities and always has something on the go like at the moment I am organising a mystery bus tour," Mrs McIntosh said.

"This festival really helps get the word out about us and is a great event for getting people socialising and trying new things, which is what we are all about," she said.

For those wanting to get active and have fun, Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre will offer free exercise classes and aquatic facility access every day during Senior Celebrations.
