Kilcoy Station has doubled its capacity to bolster community safety, increasing from two to four permanent full-time officers.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) conducted analysis for growth of the station following increased calls for service to the area in line with population growth.
The Kilcoy police division is 1440sq kilometres with a divisional population of approximately 5000 people. It borders Woodford and Maleny to the east, Moore and Toogoolawah to the west, Imbil and Goomeri to the north, and Esk to the south.
Assistant District Officer Superintendent Christopher Toohey welcomed the expansion.
"It is great news for the community of Kilcoy and the wider community of Somerset that there are an additional two police officers commencing from 3 October," he said.
"While the Moreton District uses an agile and borderless policing model, an extra two officers based permanently in Kilcoy will go a long way to deterring criminal offending and improving community safety services."
Officer in Charge of Kilcoy Station Sergeant Jacob Lechowski said the increase is timely as the division moves into the high-risk weather season.
"These communities have been impacted in recent years by isolation due to flooding and the risk of bushfire is also increasing in the area," he said. "The additional officers will help to bolster community safety and disaster readiness during high-risk weather events."
The Kilcoy police division is also supported by many specialist units, such as the Criminal Investigation Branch, Child Protection and Investigation Unit, Highway Patrol, Scenes of Crime, Dog Squad, Rural and Stock Crime Squad and the Intelligence Office.
