Dogs of Kilmore will soon have an official off-lead park near the Kilmore Racecourse to call their own thanks to $30,000 from the Victorian Government's Building Works package.
The park is one of 17 to receive funding through the program announced by Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D'Ambrosio this week.
Construction began in July. The off-lead dog park is 25m x 50m, is fully fenced and will include a drinking fountain.
The purpose-built space means dog owners can exercise their beloved pets in a controlled environment and socialise their dogs with other dogs and dog park visitors.
It is hoped the dog park will be ready to open in the next month or so, pending the lifting of stage 3 restriction and adding the final touches. There will be a code of conduct for the site and also opening hours.
As stated by Mitchell Shire Mayor Cr David Lowe
"With Kilmore growing fast and the area already being used for dog exercise informally, we saw an opportunity to create the dog park," he said.
"I'd like to thank the Victorian Government for providing funding for this park. Partnerships like this help to ease the pressure on our capital works budgets so we can provide more facilities like this into the future.
"We know our furry friends are feeling the impacts of COVID restrictions to, so it will be great for people in Kilmore to have somewhere to come to exercise and socialise their dogs once restrictions ease."
