King tide expected early next week

Townsville City Council is asking residents to take precautions before the predicted king tide starting early next week.

The king tide is expected from Tuesday through to Thursday with a peak of 4.10m early on Wednesday morning.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney encouraged residents in low-lying areas to move valuables and observe any warnings.

"Residents living in or visiting areas such as South Townsville, Railway Estate, Hanran Street and Ogden street may be impacted by salt water flooding," Cr Greaney said.

"Residents are asked to observe any warnings and road closures during the king tide and to move cars and valuables if they are concerned.

"If you are driving around these areas, please remember to remain cautious and vigilant around flooded roads – if it's flooded forget it."
