King tides expected from this weekend

Townsville City Council is encouraging residents in low-lying areas to take precautions ahead of the king tides expected from this weekend.

The king tides are predicted from Sunday and will reach a peak of 4.02m at 8.23am on Tuesday 7 April.

Council recommends that residents in areas that are prone to minor flooding during the tides move valuables and their cars to protect them from the saltwater.

Suburbs such as South Townsville and Railway Estate may be impacted, along with Hanran Street and Ogden Street in the city.

Motorists are asked to observe any warnings and road closures.

The tides forecast for the king tides is below:

  • 3.84m Sunday 5 April at 7.11am
  • 4.00m Monday 6 April at 7.46am
  • 4.02m Tuesday 7 April at 8.23am
  • 3.89m Wednesday 8 April at 9.01am
