Kingaroy Police Station opens its doors

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan and Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart officially opened Kingaroy Police Station, Queensland Police say.

Commissioner Stewart said the station located on Alford Street places local officers in the best possible position to respond to and address community safety issues in a timely, proactive and preventative manner.

He said the district’s police were delighted to see a new facility open as the existing Kingaroy Police Station was built in 1960.

"It will be instrumental for these officers in servicing the large region that the Kingaroy Policing Division encompasses and aiding police in the significant responsibility of assisting and protecting a population of over 10,000 residents," Commissioner Stewart said.

"The new station is a step forward in carrying on a proud background of policing in the Kingaroy region, dating back to 1907 when the initial station was opened here in Kingaroy.

"This building complements the Queensland Police Service’s involvement in the community of Kingaroy as a major location in the South Burnett area."

The new station houses 33 Queensland police staff, including 30 police officers and three administration officers, and has come a long way from the original establishment where police operated out of a railway carriage.
