Kingston announces a funding package to help bushfire recovery projects
Kingston Council has announced a range of initiatives and funding commitments to help support recovery projects around the State following the recent devastating bushfires.
Included in the assistance package will be a one-off $50,000 allocation to a recovery project in one of the affected shires and a donation to be shared equally between Wildlife Victoria and Zoos Victoria from the proceeds of the Mordialloc Festival gold coin entry and the Bushfire Fundraiser Wine Sales at the Kingston Arts' Pop Up Bar.
Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley expressed Council's sympathy to the people and communities who suffered losses from the bushfires and said the Kingston community want to do whatever they can to support the affected people in the long recovery process.
"The absolute generosity of our community and the way everyone has come together has been incredible to see," Cr Oxley said. "Local businesses have been donating whatever they can, thousands of dollars' worth of food and other products, and sending them out to communities in need."
The City of Kingston also promised to continue to make staff available to assist affected Councils throughout Victoria.
"We will continue to do whatever we can to help those communities recovering from the devastating bushfires including other local councils who need our support to deliver vital services to their residents," said Cr Oxley.
Council's bushfire recovery initiatives include:
- Allocate $50,000 to a recovery project to be determined in consultation with the Shire of Towong
- Donate the proceeds of the 2020 Mordialloc Festival gold coin entry and the proceeds from the Bushfire Fundraiser Wine Sales at Kingston Arts' Pop Up Bar to Wildlife Victoria (Victorian Bushfire Appeal) and Zoos Victoria (Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund)
- Waive Council facility hire fees for bushfire fundraising efforts by community groups to 30 June 2020
