Young Citizen of the Year – Mikail Liakos

Living with vision impairment, Mikail has shown extraordinary courage and determination to create positive change. At school he is known for his strong work ethic and inclusive mindset, serving as a role model for fellow students.

Beyond the classroom, he has become a public advocate for accessibility, sharing his story nationally to break down stigma, while also raising thousands for causes such as the Royal Children's Hospital.

A leader in sport and community programs, Mikail's resilience and generosity make him an inspiring award recipient.

Young Community Group of the Year – Mordialloc Life Saving Club Youth Committee

Formed only late last year, the Mordialloc Life Saving Club Youth Committee has quickly become a driving force for youth leadership and inclusion.

Its members contribute to public safety through patrols, while also leading behind the scenes in planning, mentoring and events. They have delivered successful fundraisers, youth activities and a major club presentation night, and are championing gender equity by encouraging young women into leadership roles.

Their maturity and innovation are building a stronger, more inclusive club culture.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley congratulated all the winners and finalists.

"We are incredibly proud of Mikail, the Mordialloc Life Saving Club Youth Committee, and every one of our Youth Award finalists. These awards celebrate the remarkable achievements of Kingston's young people and the many ways they are making a difference," Cr Oxley said.

"From leadership and advocacy to volunteering, the arts, sports and innovation – our young people are stepping up, giving back and inspiring our whole community. It's so important that we recognise and encourage their contributions, because they are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are leaders today."

The Kingston Youth Awards are open to young people aged 12–25 who live, work or study in Kingston.
