Kingston's Tinsel Trail returns to bring festive cheer, as Carols cancelled
Due to uncertainty around holding large-scale events during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to ensure the safety of our community, Kingston Council has made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Carols by Kingston.
Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said cancelling the much-loved Carols event again was disappointing, but Council was excited to be able to bring back Kingston's very successful Tinsel Trail.
"We had some wonderful feedback about our Tinsel Trail last year and we are looking forward to spreading some festive cheer across Kingston again through a series of COVID-Safe community celebrations and activities."
Details of the Tinsel Trail activities for 2021 will be shared in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on our website and social media.
"The safety of our community is our main priority," Cr Staikos said. "We know that although the community will be disappointed that we can't hold our Carols event, they understand well the challenges associated with holding events at the moment.
"Each year Carols by Kingston attracts over 10,000 guests and requires months of meticulous planning and preparation. The limited timeframe and uncertainty surrounding the settings for events of this scale come December made it impossible to effectively prepare an event we could be proud to present to our community."
Subject to state government restrictions, we are looking forward to bringing our community back together at events in the coming months and have plenty of plans for 2022, including another outdoor cinema event.
"The community loved our first outdoor cinema event at Sir William Fry Reserve in Highett earlier this year and we are keen to bring that back again in 2022 this time in Mordialloc," said Cr Staikos.
"We're also determined that Carols by Kingston will be back with a bang in 2022."
