This planting season, our tree maintenance team will plant more than 2,500 new trees across our local parks, reserves, wetlands and streets to help grow a greener, healthier and more liveable Knox.
Tree planting season takes place every year between April and November, when cooler weather and increased rainfall give young trees the best chance to establish.
We plant a range of native and non-native trees, choosing species that complement the surrounding area.
This year's program has seen new trees planted across our community. Planting sites have been selected following inspections that help to identify where more tree canopy is needed.
Our teams monitor and care for each new tree for up to two years after planting, providing regular watering and maintenance to support growth. Once established, the new trees become part of Council's routine inspection program to ensure they are healthy, structurally safe and continue to thrive as local infrastructure changes.
Trees benefit us in many ways. They provide shade, help keep indoor and outdoor spaces cool and improve air quality. They also catch rain, reducing the amount of water running into streets and drains and provide food and habitat for local wildlife.
For Knox, trees also enhance the leafy character of our neighbourhoods and help connect us with nature, improving our health and wellbeing.
Council is responsible for managing more than 90,000 trees across our neighbourhoods.
