For the first time in its two-decade legacy, Australia's toughest team endurance event is making its long-awaited Sydney debut, bringing with it the ultimate test of grit, endurance and mateship.
Since 2005, the Kokoda Challenge has inspired thousands of Australians from all walks of life to push beyond their limits in a true hiking adventure defined by spirit and determination. This event is far more than your average fun run or charity event; the resilience it demands is matched by an incredible sense of achievement that makes every step worth it.
Now, Sydney is set to experience the Kokoda spirit like never before on September 20th, 2025. Gather your team of two to five, lace up your boots and take on the 18km, 48km, or if you're ready for the ultimate challenge, tackle the premier 96km course. Each route journeys through the scenic trails of the Heathcote and Royal National Park.
For those ready to rise to the ultimate test, the 96km course pays tribute to the original 1942 Kokoda Track campaign and honours the legacy of the 39th Battalion, challenging teams to conquer unforgiving elevation and terrain in just 39 hours.
Whether you're a seasoned trekker or chasing your next big challenge, this is your chance to be part of something truly bigger than yourself.
Trent, a returning challenger, puts it best: "This is my second 96km Kokoda Challenge, having completed the Gold Coast event in 2023. The gruelling challenge defines you in so many ways you didn't know were possible. I gained so much from my 2023 experience and now, along with my team members, I am set to discover the fierce and relentless Sydney 96km challenge".
What awaits at the finish line? Unmatched camaraderie, profound personal growth and the power to transform the lives of young Australians.
More than just a physical feat, every step along the way is a tribute to the brave soldiers who fought along the Kokoda Track, while raising vital funds for the Kokoda Youth Foundation's transformative youth programs, equipping young Aussies with the tools and support to reach their full potential.
"The Kokoda Challenge events are much more than just physical endurance, they are vital lifelines for our Foundation's programs," says Kokoda Youth Foundation CEO Angie Debnam. "Each year, the funds raised through these events enable us to support hundreds of young people by providing them with free, life-changing programs."
Participants cross the finish line not only having proven their strength, but with the pride of knowing they've helped rewrite a young person's story.
Still riding the high from the unforgettable Kokoda Challenges held in Queensland earlier this year, the 2025 Kokoda Challenge Series now reaches its fourth and final leg with Sydney's debut – a historic first that promises an atmosphere like no other.
