Families will be able to cool down this summer in Kyabram Fauna Park's new splash park as well as enjoying upgraded trails and wildlife habitats at the Zoo, thanks to the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for the Environment Steve Dimopoulos today opened the 580-square-metre Splash Park shaped like a Broad-shelled Turtle and upgraded facilities for newly arrived animals including a Quoll, Wombat and Meerkat.
Two kilometers of paths have also been upgraded at the park, making it easier for visitors with mobility needs and families with prams to visit the splash park and exhibits.
Enclosures and facilities were upgraded to help accommodate new animals, improve animal welfare by giving them additional space to thrive in and allow better visitor experiences and viewing.
A new wildlife hospital will also be built at Kyabram Fauna Park, backed by $2.8 million from the Labor Government. The purpose-built facility will support the treatment and rehabilitation of native wildlife across northern Victoria.
These investments in the Zoo's Victoria park are strengthening Kyabram's position as a key regional tourism destination, supporting local jobs, protecting native wildlife, and providing families of all abilities with a fun day out.
The Splash Park incorporates cultural and conservation themes, with design elements inspired by the Endangered Broad-shelled Turtle, a totem of the local Yorta Yorta people. The development complements the park's year round animal experiences and its role in wildlife education and conservation.
Thanks to the Labor Government's Kids Go Free program, children under 16 receive free admission to Kyabram Fauna Park, Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo on weekends, public holidays and school holidays.
