La Trobe University has made an impressive rise into the top 250 universities in the world in the 2021 Times Higher Education (THE) World Ranking. This is La Trobe's highest position to date in this ranking.
For a fourth consecutive year, La Trobe has risen by a full band, after achieving a ranking of 291 last year.*
La Trobe Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Susan Dodds said by putting impact first, La Trobe was achieving impressive results and gaining recognition as a world-leading University for research and teaching excellence, as well as strong international engagement.
"Having been placed fourth in the world in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings earlier this year, this latest outstanding achievement in the world rankings further acknowledges La Trobe's deeply embedded focus on addressing the world's biggest challenges," Professor Dodds said.
"We have achieved this through our exceptional teaching, research and our longstanding industry connections at a regional, national and global level."
La Trobe has been steadily rising in the THE rankings since 2017. THE calculates the rankings based on information provided by more than 1500 research-intensive universities and institutions across the globe. Universities are assessed for research, citations, teaching, international outlook, and industry income.
In April, the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings placed La Trobe fourth in the world, third in Australia and first in Victoria for overall contribution to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). La Trobe ranked first in the world for gender equality and second for its contribution to health and well-being.
La Trobe continues to sit in the top 400 universities in the world in all three major global rankings -QS, Times Higher Education and Academic Ranking of World Universities.
*In 2018 La Trobe was in the 350-400 band, in 2019 was 301-350, in 2020 was 251-300, and in 2021 is in the top 250
