Labor Backs The Carlton Italian Festa

The Carlton Italian Festa will be bigger and better than ever before, under a re-elected Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott, today attending the festival, announced that 2019’s event will be backed with an extra $70,000 from a re-elected Labor Government.

Now in its seventh year, the Carlton Italian Festa is a celebration of all things Italian including music, dance, language, cars and, of course, Italian food.

Carlton has a long and proud history as the place where many Italian-speaking people first settled when they arrived in Melbourne.

This festival celebrates this heritage and the many contributions of Italian Victorians.

Our state is home to a strong and proud Italian community, with the 2016 Census showing that 112,272 Victorians speak Italian at home.

The announcement builds on the Andrews Labor Government’s $80,000 provided as part of the 2018/19 Multicultural Festivals and Events program.

Only Labor will stand with our state’s proud multifaith and multicultural communities, and only Labor is willing to make the investments that really matter.

As noted by Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott

"In every way, and every day, our Italian communities make Victoria stronger and more successful."

"With this investment, Labor will help make sure those contributions are celebrated, making the Carlton Italian Festa bigger and better than ever before".
