Labor Is Delivering World-Class Warrnambool Hospital

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is getting on with delivering a bigger and better Warrnambool Hospital.

Minister Horne today announced that major construction has begun on the almost $400 million project.

The redevelopment is one of the biggest health infrastructure projects in regional Victoria and will future proof the hospital for generations to come.

More than 75,000 hours of careful preparatory works at the hospital have been completed so far to make way for main works starting.

Following these early works and demolition, the new multi-services clinical tower is now starting to take shape.

Labor's redevelopment of Warrnambool Base Hospital is delivering:

  • A bigger, modern emergency department
  • New operating theatres
  • A 32-bed inpatient unit
  • A dedicated 10-bed paediatric unit
  • Purpose built areas for medical imaging and dialysis
  • More car parking spaces

The expanded hospital will reduce emergency wait times and increase access to specialist care for the region.

Up to 800 jobs will be supported during construction, in a major boost for the local economy.

The project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) in partnership with South West Healthcare and Hansen Yuncken Builders.

Community information sessions will take place in Warrnambool throughout March so the community can have their say on the massive project.

When the project is complete, locals will be able to access more world-class care, right on their doorstep.

As south-west Victoria continues to grow, only Labor will deliver the healthcare local families need.

As stated by Minister for Health Infrastructure Melissa Horne

"Major construction on the Warrnambool Base Hospital redevelopment is officially underway - this massive project will deliver more world-class care for the growing region."

As stated by Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas

"Our health care workers deserve the very best facilities, so they can provide the very best care - that is what this project delivers."

As stated by Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora

"Today is a significant day for south west Victoria - it's a construction site now, but soon this site will be delivering more world-class healthcare."
