Labor, Liberals Team Up To Triple Annual Lock-out Period Of Albert Park For Grand Prix, Betraying Community

Australian Greens

The Victorian Greens have said Labor and the Liberals' decision to work together to triple the annual lock out period of Albert Park for the Grand Prix is a betrayal of the community.

The decision will effectively lock out communities, park users and sports clubs from Albert Park for nearly a month each year, as opposed to the usual one week.

Local residents and community groups fought against the extension of the race period, alongside the Greens who opposed the bill from the outset.

As stated by the Victorian Greens MLC for Southern Metropolitan, Katherine Copsey:

"Once again, Labor and the Liberals team up to put big corporate interests before those of the community.

"Albert Park is a public space and it should be for the local community, not a corporate paddock.

"Communities will be rightly outraged at Labor's extended land-grab. It's an utter betrayal."
