It’s time for Labor to call on the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Union bosses to halt their proposed bans on all elective surgery at the Mersey Community Hospital from Monday.
The choice is simple, will Labor stand up for Tasmanians who need care or their union mates?
Do Bec White and Sarah Lovell support union work bans that target the most urgent Category 1 surgeries, including surgery for children, patients that potentially have cancer and other serious illnesses at the Mersey?
The Government has been negotiating in good faith with the ANMF for months and continues to do so.
The Government’s formal offer to the union provides for a six per cent pay rise over three years plus improved terms and conditions.
There is a further negotiation meeting scheduled for next week and it is appalling that union bosses are planning to deliberately cancel and delay important surgeries when we are in the midst of negotiations.
It’s time Labor stand up for Tasmanians who need care and call on ANMF bosses to abandon their reckless attempt to prevent surgery at the Mersey Community Hospital and resume negotiating in good faith.
