The Allan Labor Government must today explain what action it will take to prevent disruptive protests expected early next week.
Reports today have indicated the Port of Melbourne and other public locations will be targeted as part of widespread protests by pro-Palestinian groups planned for next Monday.
Throughout January, Webb Dock was repeatedly shut down due to similar protests – resulting in considerable delays and tens of millions of dollars in economic harm to the state.
The Victorian Liberals and Nationals have repeatedly called for the re-instating of Move On powers for Victoria Police and introduced new legislation to the Victorian Parliament last month to designate the Port of Melbourne as critical infrastructure.
Shadow Attorney-General, Michael O'Brien, said: "For years, Labor has left Victoria Police to face disruptive and dangerous protests with one hand tied behind their backs.
"These protests only harm Victoria's economy and international reputation and the Allan Labor Government must explain what action it will take to prevent further disruption next week."
Shadow Minister for Ports and Freight, Roma Britnell, said: "These protests do enormous harm to critical supply chains and ultimately drive-up costs for consumers.
"It is simply not good enough to wait until things go wrong so the Allan Labor Government must take preventative action to ensure Victoria's ports remain open and operational."
