Labor Still Run From Mainland

Liberal Tasmania
  • Felix Ellis Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Minister for Housing, Planning and Consumer Affairs, Minister for Skills and Training, Member for Braddon
  • Labor in Tasmania continues to be run by its political overlords on the mainland after it failed to be allowed to come out of administration.

The Tasmanian Branch was placed in administration in 2022 as it was being torn apart by factional infighting.

Its Administrative Committee and State Conference, where policy is determined, remain suspended.

The infighting hasn't stopped. It's been papered over.

Labor Leader Dean Winter doesn't answer to Tasmanians; he answers to his mainland bosses.

Mr Winter deliberately misled the Tasmanian people when he told journalists in Hobart yesterday "we pre-select our own candidates and run our own party here in Tasmania".

    This is untrue.

Tasmanian Labor is under a delegated authority from Labor's National Executive, which decides what Tasmania can do. The National Executive conducted all recent contested preselections.

How can Labor govern Tasmania when it can't even be trusted to govern its own state branch?

    ALP Rules:

20.1 The National Executive has resolved to:

    (a) intervene in, and have oversight over, the affairs of the Party for an initial term up to and including 30 June 2025 ("the intervention period"); and

    (b) suspend the operation of the State Conference and the current Administrative Committee during the intervention period.
