The tourism voucher scheme was never about cost-of-living, it was about the Liberals trying to make amends for catastrophically stuffing up the Spirits.
When they finally admitted the Spirits would be six years delayed, the Liberals tried to solve the problem by spending $10 million of taxpayers' money on dinner vouchers - during a budget crisis. No responsible government would ever do this.
Labor's plan for a Fresh Start with the Spirits - which includes bringing them home on Day 1 - is how we will start fixing their mess.
Let me be clear: Labor won't just delay the vouchers, we will scrap them. It is reckless spending our state cannot afford and is part of the $500 million in savings Labor has already identified to start fixing the budget.
The Liberals have racked up nearly $11 billion worth of net debt. At this rate Tasmania will spend more on interest payments than we spend on our ambulance service and emergency departments combined.
The Liberals' mismanagement of the Spirits and out of control spending is exactly why Tasmania needs a Fresh Start.
