Labor Undermines Tourism Sector In Latest Reshuffle

Liberal Party Victoria

Victoria's tourism sector and the local jobs it supports have been left worse-off under the Allan Labor Government's latest cabinet reshuffle

Today, Premier Jacinta Allan has announced the Major Events and Tourism portfolio will be split - threatening to create a lack of coordination and disjointed policy between these two complementary areas of government.

This decision has not been made to deliver better outcomes and a stronger tourism sector, but to appease Labor insiders who are putting their own interests ahead of Victorians.

Victoria's tourism sector understands the key link between major events and attracting people to our state, and this move is a step in the wrong direction.

Shadow Minister for Major Events and Tourism, David Southwick, said: "Major events should be used to drive visitors into regional Victoria, supporting local jobs and businesses, but Labor has broken that connection.

"Regional communities have been hit hard, from bushfires to rising costs, and tourism remains a crucial lifeline. What they need is strong leadership and investment, not distraction and instability."
