Victorians continue to pay the price for Labor's reckless spending as it is revealed the Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) has spent almost $200,000 on live office plants.
In August 2024, the SRLA entered into a $196,379 contract with Foliage Indoor Plant Hire Pty Ltd for "Indoor Plant Hire and Maintenance Services".
Today during State Parliament's Question Time, Premier Jacinta Allan was unable to justify the expenditure and refused to take responsibility for her government's wasteful spending.
The details of this contract follow revelations today the SRLA has concurrently engaged three separate recruiters to provide "executive recruitment services" at a cost of more than $466,000 - despite the SRLA having 100 executives across 2024-25.
Under the Labor Government, the number of Victorian Public Service executives has more than tripled, whilst net debt continues to grow at more than $2 million an hour and is expected to reach a record $194 billion by mid-2029.
Shadow Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Evan Mulholland, said: "This is yet another example of Labor's reckless spending and contempt for taxpayers' money.
"The $200,000 that Labor has spent on office pot plants could've hired two police officers for a year. Labor's priorities are all wrong.
"Only a Wilson Liberal and Nationals Government will end Labor's era of waste and reckless spending and sustainability invest in the urgent community safety, health and housing priorities facing our state."
