Tasmanian Labor

The Tasmanian Labor Opposition welcomes the appointment of the Governor Designate Barbara Baker.

Acting Labor Leader Anita Dow said Ms Baker was an excellent appointment as Tasmania's 29th Governor.

"Ms Baker has had a distinguished career as a lawyer and is a trailblazer having been the first female partner of Law Firm Murdoch Clarke and the first Tasmanian woman to be appointed as a Federal Magistrate in 2008. Her experience and knowledge as a Judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia will be invaluable in her new role as Governor of Tasmania," Ms Dow said.

"I look forward to meeting Ms Baker and wish her well in her new role"

Ms Dow said Her Excellency Professor Kate Warner's term as Governor will come to an end in June and it is important to acknowledge her incredible contribution to the Tasmanian Community.

"Her Excellency has certainly left a remarkable legacy through her leadership.

"Ms Warner, Tasmania's first female Governor, is an outstanding role model for women and girls and has shown incredible leadership, compassion and integrity throughout her time in the role.

"Tasmanian Labor acknowledges the outstanding service of Her Excellency and the positive impact she has had on the Tasmanian Community and wishes Kate and Dick all the very best for the future."
